Monday Sessions

The concurrent sessions for Monday covered all kinds of relevant topics for technology in education.

A session title 1:1 Digital Initiative for Grades K-6 was very interesting. A small school secured Apple computers for each student to have their own in grades K through 6. In K-2, the computers were only used in class, but in 3-6 the students were able to take them home when there was a specific assignment to complete. Parents were brought in for training alongside their students and also signed an agreement form. The presenters showed sample projects, from a Kindergarten alliteration project to a fourth grade news report.

Two sessions on the use of Moodle followed for me. The first one was presented by a professor from Juniata. She was very enthusiastic about using the program, having been a former blackboard user. She demonstrated the process her students use to access the course, submit work and participate in online discussions.

The second Moodle session was led by Jim Gates from Capitol Area IU. Having attended a Moodle training workshop with Jim, I know he is also an enthusiastic user of the program. Jim demonstrated the many components built in to Moodle and how they can be utilized with students.

  1. Having read this, I now have a better idea of why you want to offer a moodle workshop. I agree that it has some potential. Maybe you could make it a two-day (or two-half day)workshop and have the participants work with moodle from home as part of the course?
