Classroom 2.0
I’ll be presenting at Classroom 2.0 on Saturday, September 20th. My topic is Personal Learning Networks, where the focus will mainly be for teachers, but may carry over into the use of learning networks for students. The main feed for the session can be found at the wikispace for the workshop. My session should be broadcast from Steve Hargadon’s edtechlive ustream channel. Hopefully, I’ll be able to embed the recorded session right here.
Using the good ole dictionary, I put together this definition for the topic:
Personal Learning Networks defined:
Personal – particular to a given individual
Learning – the acquisition and development of memories and behaviors, including skills, knowledge, understanding, values, and wisdom
Network – an interconnected system of things or people
Putting those together = The acquisition and development of memories and behaviors, including skills, knowledge, understanding, values, and wisdom, particular to an individual, through an interconnected system of people.
Session resources are housed at http://krillworkshops.wikispaces.com/personal+learning+networks . I’m hoping that folks get a sense of where to start and the cycle of building and maintaining a learning network. If you have any feelings about your own learning network or the steps you took to build one, please share in the comments.

My personal learning network has taught me more than any course I have ever taken. In a course, you learn most of the material from the teacher. In my PLN, the aggregate power of the group teaches the group. Services like Skype, twitter, listservs, etc. make it possible to “throw it out to the network.” My PLN is always with me in that way. We are virtually hanging out in the same room, and when I call out, there they are! It’s incredible.
