Learning to Coach

Recently, I attended a one day workshop with Stephen Barkley from PLS. As a technology coach, it was odd at first to find myself in a room full of non-tech type people. There were literacy coaches, math coaches, and administrators in attendance. In the end, I found the day to be enjoyable and super informative. It didn’t matter that the participants were not all coaching in the same area ~ the skills of a good coach are the same no matter the content.

I’ve embedded my notes below, done in newsletter format. My biggest takeaway of the day was that I would have LOVED to have a coach when I was in the classroom. Someone to assist with planning, observe the class in action and help me reflect after the fact. That would have been PRICELESS!

Check out Stephen Barkley’s blog for coaching posts and comments. He told the whole audience that he was our coach now and we were welcome to go to him for help!
